SovEcon expects Russia’s 2022 wheat harvest at 80.7 mln tns

MOSCOW, Oct 18 (PRIME) -- Agricultural research agency SovEcon expects Russia’s gross wheat harvest to grow by 7% on the year to 80.7 million tonnes in 2022 thanks to a good weather for sowing and growing of winter wheat, the agency said in a statement on Monday.

The combined sowing area for wheat should remain flat on the year at 28.7 million hectares in 2022, but a considerable decrease in the failure of winter crops should result in a higher harvest. But farmers may reduce sowing of spring wheat due to the wheat export duty, the agency said.

“The Russian agricultural producers have faced many problems lately, including state regulation of the market, volatile prices for agricultural products, and drought in the second half of the summer,” SovEcon Director Andrei Sizov said as quoted by the agency.

“At least, the weather started cooperating, and abundant rainfalls of the start of the autumn increased deposits of moisture throughout the country. On average, winter wheat is now in the best shape for the past several years.”
